Express has been the defacto web application framework for Node.js for years and has been used in a lot of ITP projects. The framework is minimalistic, easy to understand, extensible, and widely adopted in the industry.

Why is this technology on hold?

Express hasn't evolved much in the past few years, while the Node.js ecosystem changed dramatically. We currently recommend using Fastify instead, as it integrates neatly with Typescript, is well-supported, and actually outperforms Express.
